Spell Checker
- Choose the language of your text: Portuguese, English or Spanish.
- Paste or type the text.
- Unrecognised words are highlighted, each with suggested corrections.
The text is split into words by a rule that recognises letters from any alphabet plus the apostrophe — so contractions such as "don't" stay whole instead of becoming two words.
Each word is compared against a dictionary for the chosen language, loaded into your browser. Suggestions come from words a small number of edits away: substitutions, insertions, deletions and transpositions of letters.
This is spell checking, not grammar checking. A correctly spelled word used incorrectly — "their" for "there", "its" for "it's" — passes without warning, because both exist in the dictionary.
Proper nouns, brands, acronyms and technical terms rarely appear in a general dictionary. A text about programming will flag dozens of words that are perfectly right in context.
Recent coinages and loanwords are also missing, because dictionaries are updated on long cycles.
Hyphenated words may be treated as two independent parts, depending on how the language dictionary records them.
The rule of thumb: treat the result as a list of candidates to review, not a verdict. The final call is yours.
The dictionary is downloaded into your browser and checking happens locally. Your text is never sent to a server or logged.
That difference matters when the material is confidential — a contract, a report, an unpublished draft. Online checkers usually process the content server-side.
Because the dictionary loads on demand, the first check in each language takes a moment longer.
